North Carolina runs a SPRING SEASON ONLY — there is no fall turkey season, so the absence of fall rows is the rule itself, not a data gap. New for 2026-27: the season now begins the Saturday on or after April 11 each year with the youth weekend directly before it, replacing the previously fixed dates. Only male or bearded turkeys may be taken. Rifles and handguns are unlawful for turkey, as is hunting with dogs. Taking a turkey knowingly within 300 yards of bait is unlawful, and an area counts as baited until 10 days after the bait is gone. Every hunter needs a Big Game Harvest Report Card and must report the harvest. Some Game Lands run permit hunts — check the Game Lands section of the Digest before hunting public land.
