Privacy Policy
The short version: this site sets no cookies, loads nothing from advertising or social networks, and measures traffic with software we run ourselves. The long version follows.
01 — The short version
- No cookies. This site sets none — not for analytics, not for anything else.
- No third-party trackers. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no social-network embeds, no comment platforms.
- Fonts are served from our own server, so your visit is not announced to a font provider.
- Traffic measurement runs on our own infrastructure using Umami, which works without cookies and without following you across sites.
- We ask for nothing. There is no account, no newsletter form and no comment box on this site, so there is nothing for you to hand over.
02 — Who is responsible
The controller for the processing described here is:
- Company
- Honeygoat GmbH
- Address
- Kägenstrasse 21, 4153 Reinach, Switzerland
- info@hunteralmanac.com
We have not appointed a data protection officer; Swiss and EU law do not require one for processing of this scale. Privacy questions go to the address above and reach the people who actually run the site.
03 — Which law applies to you
We are a Swiss company publishing for a mostly US audience, so more than one privacy regime is in play at once. Rather than pick the most convenient, we apply the strongest of them to everyone:
- Switzerland — the revised Federal Act on Data Protection (revDSG) applies to us directly.
- EU / EEA / United Kingdom — if you visit from there, the GDPR and UK GDPR apply to this processing under Art. 3(2) GDPR.
- United States — state privacy laws such as the California CCPA/CPRA, and the equivalents in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and Oregon, give you rights described in section 08.
04 — Server logs
The site is hosted by Infomaniak Network SA (Switzerland). Like every web server, it records a technical log entry when a page is requested: the IP address, the time, the file requested, the HTTP status, the referring page and the browser's user-agent string.
This is a necessary part of delivering a web page and of keeping the server secure and working. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating and protecting the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; Art. 31 revDSG). We do not use these logs to build profiles, and we do not combine them with the analytics data described next.
05 — Analytics, without cookies
We want to know which pages people find useful — which states get read, whether anyone reaches the hunter-safety pages. We measure that with Umami, an open-source analytics tool that we host ourselves at analytics.balmac.ch. No analytics company receives your data, because there is no analytics company involved.
Umami records, per page view:
- the page you opened and the page that referred you
- browser, operating system and device type
- screen size and browser language
- an approximate country, derived from your IP address
Umami sets no cookies and does not track you from one website to another. It derives an anonymous, rotating visitor identifier rather than storing your IP address, so the records cannot be traced back to you afterwards. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding which parts of the almanac are used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Because no cookies or comparable techniques are stored on your device, no consent banner is required for this.
If you would rather not be counted at all, any content blocker or your browser's Do Not Track / tracking-protection setting will stop the measurement — the site works exactly the same without it.
06 — What is stored on your device
Nothing. This site stores no cookies, no tracking identifiers and nothing in your browser's local storage.
Until August 2026 there was one exception: a light/dark switch in the header saved your choice locally. That switch has been removed and the site now has a single appearance, so nothing is written at all. If you used the site before then, an old entry may still sit in your browser; clearing this site's data removes it.
07 — Third parties and outbound links
Fonts, images and scripts are all served from our own infrastructure. As of 2026 the only request your browser makes to another host is to our own analytics server described above.
This almanac links out heavily — to state wildlife agencies, regulation PDFs and licence portals, because that is the point of it. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else's site, under their privacy policy and their cookies. We have no control over and no insight into what happens there.
Advertising and affiliate links
This site carries advertising and/or affiliate links. See the affiliate disclosure for details. We intend to introduce display advertising and affiliate links later. When that happens, this section will name the partners before they go live, and visitors from the EEA and the UK will be asked for consent through a proper consent tool first — advertising cookies will not be set on the quiet. Our affiliate and advertising disclosure explains how such links will be marked.
08 — Your rights
Because we ask for no personal details and store no cookies, we usually hold nothing that could identify you. Where we do process personal data — server logs above all — you have the following rights:
- Access — ask what we hold about you.
- Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure — have data deleted, within the limits of our retention duties.
- Restriction and objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest, including the analytics described in section 05.
- Portability — receive data you provided in a machine-readable form.
- Complaint — complain to a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EEA your national authority, in the UK the ICO.
If you are in the United States
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted or corrected, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, and we never have. We do not process sensitive personal information, and we do not use personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You will not be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any right, write to info@hunteralmanac.com. We answer within 30 days. Please tell us roughly when you visited and from where — without cookies or accounts, that is often the only way we can locate anything at all.
09 — Children
This site is a regulatory reference for adult hunters and licence buyers. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
10 — Retention and transfers
Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting and are then deleted or overwritten by our host. Analytics records hold no identifying data and are kept in aggregate.
Both our hosting and our analytics run on European infrastructure; hosting is with a Swiss provider. Switzerland is recognised by the European Commission as offering an adequate level of data protection, so no additional transfer safeguards are needed for visitors from the EEA.
11 — Changes to this policy
We update this page when the site changes — most likely when advertising or affiliate links are switched on. The date at the top always shows the current version. Material changes will be described here rather than slipped in silently.
