  • Formatted on a computer, not in the camera. A PC's default format does not always match what the camera's firmware expects to read. Format every new card inside the camera itself the first time it goes in, and again any time the card has been used somewhere else.
  • A capacity or type the camera does not support. An SDXC card in an SDHC-only camera will not simply run slower — it typically will not format at all, or will report full/errors immediately. This is a firmware limit, not a defect in the card.
