Rule: One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset — K.A.R. 115-4-4: 'Shooting hours for deer, antelope, and elk during each day of any deer, antelope, or elk hunting season shall be from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.' Kansas's SMALL game runs a different rule (half an hour before sunrise to sunset, no after-sunset margin), so the two do not share hours.. Kansas is unusual and pleasant to verify: it prints the rule that generates each season alongside three years of resolved dates, so a date can be checked against its own formula. Confirmed for 2026: Youth and Disability, 'first Saturday of September and continuing a total of 9 days', Sept. 5-13; Muzzleloader Only, 'second Monday following the first Saturday in September and continuing a total of 14 days', Sept. 14-27; Regular Archery, same start through December 31, Sept. 14-Dec. 31; Firearms Pre-Rut Whitetail Antlerless Only, 'Saturday immediately preceding Columbus Day, 3 days', Oct. 10-12; Regular Firearms, 'Wednesday following Thanksgiving, 12 days', Dec. 2-13. Shooting hours are stated on the same page for all big game: 'one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset'. The single Extended Antlerless row in this file is a simplification and should be read as such: KDWP splits it into three unit segments, all starting January 1, 2027 but ending on different Sundays - Unit 3 Jan. 10, Units 4-10 and 16 Jan. 17, Units 11-15 and 19 Jan. 24 (the date this file carries), with no extended WAO at all in Units 1, 2, 17 and 18. Also not modeled: Extended Archery WAO in Unit 19 (Jan. 25-31, 2027), Extended Pre-Rut in Unit 12 (Oct. 13-18), and the military subunits, where Fort Riley runs Dec. 19-23 and 26-31 and needs its own installation permits. Small caution for the next reader: the KDWP page carries a few typos of its own (a heading reading Extended Pre-Ruth, a date written January 1-7-2029, and one segment labelled 2026 for a January 2027 window). None of them affect the 2026-27 dates used here.
