Kansas Hunting License Cost 2026: Fees, Deer & Turkey Permits
A year costs $25 for residents and $125 for nonresidents.
Every figure below is a base price — KDWP adds an agent and transaction fee to each license, permit and stamp at the till, so the amount charged runs a little higher. Residents 15 and younger and residents 75 and older need no hunting license at all, though permits, tags and stamps still apply to them. Kansas splits deer access by weapon and residency: one $40 resident permit covers the any-season whitetail, archery and muzzleloader options alike, while the resident firearm either-species permit and every nonresident whitetail permit are draw-only with fixed spring application windows. Senate Bill 364 (May 2026) restores a discounted 10-year senior license and widens eligibility for the children’s lifetime license; KDWP expects those no earlier than November 2026.

05 — Hunter education
Kansas requires a hunter education certificate for most first-time license buyers. Required of anyone born on or after July 1, 1957. Hunters 15 and younger may hunt without it under the direct supervision of an adult 18 or older, and an apprentice license defers it twice for hunters 16 and older who stay under a licensed adult’s supervision. Kansas accepts certificates from all other states, Canadian provinces and many foreign jurisdictions.

Kansas licenses run 365 days from the day you buy them rather than to a fixed calendar date, and the five-year versions run 1,825 days. Youth multi-year licenses are the exception: they expire on December 31 of the year the holder turns 21.
