Cedar Creek sits inside the Oconee National Forest across three counties, 41,000 acres of USFS land that Georgia DNR manages for hunting — deer and turkey are the headline draws. Di-Lane, south of Augusta near Waynesboro, is smaller at 8,100 acres but does one thing better than almost anywhere else in the state: bobwhite quail habitat maintained at 2.5-3 birds per acre, with quota-drawn quail hunts, alongside a deer herd that posted the state's best overall success rate in a recent season. This list is a starting point, not Georgia DNR's full inventory of more than 100 wildlife management areas statewide.
02 — Access rules beyond your hunting license
Georgia dropped its separate WMA license and Georgia Outdoor Recreational Pass (GORP) — any hunting or fishing license that covers state land now includes WMA access for hunters 16 and up, no extra stamp needed. The popular quota hunts (deer, turkey, dove and quail draws on the state's best WMAs) still run through a separate electronic application that opens June 1 each year, on top of whatever license you're carrying.
