Nevada Hunter Safety Course 2026: Cost & Online Options

Anyone born after January 1, 1960 must provide proof of hunter education before buying a Nevada hunting license. 18+ can certify entirely online, from $29.

Nevada splits its requirement cleanly by age rather than course format: hunters 18 and older can certify entirely online through any approved vendor with no further steps, while anyone under 18 must add a free, NDOW-run in-person class on top of the same home-study material — the study portion (workbook or online) is a prerequisite for the class, not a substitute for it. Both the free paper workbook and the vendor courses satisfy that home-study requirement equally, so a family with kids can mix a free workbook for a minor with a $29-$49.95 paid online course for the accompanying adult, or vice versa.

01 — Who needs it

Anyone born after January 1, 1960 must provide proof of hunter education before buying a Nevada hunting license.

A hunter education card or certificate from any other U.S. state or Canadian province, or a previous year's Nevada hunting license showing the hunter-ed number, satisfies the requirement — no separate Nevada-specific exam needed.

02 — Course options

CourseFormatWhoCostNotes
Online course (18 and older) Online 18+ Self-paced — Certifies fully online for adults — no in-person class required. Price depends on which approved vendor you pick; see the table below.
Home study/online + in-person certification class (under 18) Online + field day Under 18; no minimum age to attend, but under-18s must be accompanied by an adult who checks them in and out Self-paced home study (workbook or online), then one in-person class — Students complete either the free Today's Hunter-NV workbook (available at any NDOW office) or one of the approved online courses first, then bring proof of 100% completion to the in-person class to be admitted. The in-person class itself is run by NDOW at no charge — only the online/workbook portion (if chosen over the free workbook) has a vendor fee.

A dash means NDOW publishes no set price for that route — what you pay depends on the provider you pick or on the individual class.

03 — Approved online courses, side by side

ProviderCostNotes
HUNTERcourse.com $29
hunter-ed.com $39.95
Recademics $39.99 Offers a discount for military, fire, and police.
ilearntohunt.com $49.95 Advertises itself as NDOW-delegated, though NDOW's own hunter education page names only the other three providers.

All of these are approved by NDOW and produce the same certificate, so the cheapest one certifies you just as well — HUNTERcourse.com at $29.

04 — Your certificate, and other states

NDOW accepts an official hunter education card or certificate from any U.S. state or Canadian province, or proof via a prior year's hunting license carrying the hunter-ed number or mark.

Nevada has no separate bowhunter education requirement — the standard hunter education certificate covers archery along with every other weapon type. NDOW's optional bowhunter education course is mainly useful for hunters planning to bowhunt in a different state that does mandate its own certificate.
