Overton, where the Moapa and Virgin rivers meet Lake Mead's Overton Arm, is Nevada's largest managed waterfowl ground at over 17,000 acres, with roots in a 1940s federal wildlife refuge. Key Pittman, a much smaller desert oasis around Nesbitt and Frenchy Lakes in Lincoln County, hosts more than two dozen duck species plus wintering swans, but bans rifles and pistols outright — shotgun only, regardless of species. Both run their own hunt-reservation systems rather than open first-come access. This list is a starting point, not NDOW's full inventory of Wildlife Management Areas statewide.

02 — Access rules beyond your hunting license

NDOW's Wildlife Management Areas are primarily managed for wetland and waterfowl protection, and two of the best-known — Overton and Key Pittman — don't run plain first-come access: both use their own hunt-reservation application process, with Overton adding a daily check-station drawing that assigns each hunter a specific field, pond, or bulrush-plot location for that day. A standard Nevada hunting license still covers the hunting itself; the reservation system controls where and when you can hunt within the WMA, not whether you're licensed to.
