Indiana Deer Season 2026–27: Dates, Zones & Bag Limits

The earliest 2026–27 opener is September 15, 2026 — Reduction Zone, limited to Deer Reduction Zones (where open). Other weapons and zones start later — see the table above.

The latest 2026–27 closing date is January 31, 2027. Individual methods and zones close on their own dates.

2026–27 bag limits: Statewide — 6 antlerless + 1 antlered, except in Deer Reduction Zones. A new County Antlerless Bag Limit replaces the prior county quota system — see DNR. License bundle — Only 1 antlered and 2 antlerless may be harvested with the license bundle. Limits are set per zone and per permit — check the agency's own regulations before you hunt.

On opening day (September 15, 2026) legal light runs 06:57 to 20:23. The rule is: Half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset, per the same Hunting & Trapping Seasons document ('Deer hunting hours'). Sunrise and sunset shift daily, so work the offset against your local Indiana sun times for any other date.

Indiana farmland owners (resident or nonresident) and the spouse/children living with them may hunt, fish, and trap without a license on land they own; a resident lessee who actually farms it gets the same right. This applies to farmland only — non-farm acreage doesn't qualify — and a nonresident owner needs to be from a state that grants Indiana landowners the same right, plus carry proof of ownership.
