Red Slough is the one to know by name — a 5,814-acre wetland in the state's far southeast corner that draws species you won't see hunting anywhere else in Oklahoma, roseate spoonbills and wood storks among the birders' reasons to visit, ducks among the hunters'. Hackberry Flat, at the opposite end of the state in the southwest, is ODWC's own pick for the state's premier waterfowl destination — a restored wetland built specifically to pull migrating mallards and pintails out of the sky. Black Kettle, up in the northwest mixed-grass prairie, is the biggest of the three by far and the one for deer and turkey rather than birds. This list is a starting point, not the full ODWC inventory — Oklahoma manages far more WMA acreage than these three areas alone.
02 — Access rules beyond your hunting license
A valid Oklahoma hunting license covers hunting on WMA land the same as anywhere else in the state — WMAs don't charge their own entry fee for hunters. Two things trip people up. First, the Annual Wildlife Conservation Passport ($46 resident / $239 nonresident, or $26/$51 for a 3-day version) is required of everyone 18 or older who enters ODWC-owned land, hunting or not — it's a separate product from the hunting license itself. Second, a Land Access Permit ($100 resident ages 18-63 / $200 nonresident any age) is required specifically for certain ODWC-managed properties on top of the Passport — check the individual WMA before you assume the Passport alone covers it.
